80,000 people notified by University of California of cyber attack

New York, Feb.27 : The University of California Berkeley has notified 80,000 people of a possible cyber attack on a system that stores social security and bank account numbers.

The University reported about an incident when a hacker gained access to its financial management software due to a security flaw in the system in December last year, Reuters reported.

"The security and privacy of the personal information provided to the university is of great importance to us. We regret that this occurred and have taken additional measures to better safeguard that information," said Paul Rivers, UC Berkeley's chief information security officer.

The university further said among those potentially affected are current and former students, faculty and vendors who work at school. (ANI)

NASA explorer decodes interstellar magnetic field

Washington: What is out there at the edge of our solar system? Scientists using data from NASA's Interstellar Boundary Explorer
(IBEX) have pinned down an interstellar magnetic field which lies at the very edge of the giant magnetic bubble surrounding our solar system called the heliosphere.

Immediately after its 2008 launch, IBEX spotted a curiosity in a thin slice of space: More particles streamed in through a long, skinny swath in the sky than anywhere else.

The origin of the so-called "IBEX ribbon" was unknown - but its very existence opened doors to observing what lies outside our solar system, the way drops of rain on a window tell you more about the weather outside.

Here`s why same-sex marriage is usually opposed

Washington D. C, Feb 27 : With the idea of same sex marriage still being unacceptable for a large section of the population, a new study has pointed to self-interest as a leading cause.

The UCLA psychology study concluded that many people believe gay men and women are more sexually promiscuous than heterosexuals, which they may fear could threaten their own marriages and their way of life.

Lead author David Pinsof said that many people who oppose same-sex marriage are uncomfortable with casual sex and feel threatened by sexual promiscuity.

Such people often marry at a younger age, have more children and believe in traditional gender roles in which men are the breadwinners and women are housewives.

Leadership means muscles, indeed

Leadership means muscles, indeed

Washington D.C, Feb 25 : Want to be seen as a leader? You may want to build up some muscle, as a new study has revealed that muscular men are perceived to be better leaders than physically weak ones.

Take Arnold Schwarzenegger, whose past popularity was a result of his physical prowess as a "Mr. Universe" bodybuilder. In the 2003's historic recall election, the physically imposing Schwarzenegger easily defeated California Governor Gray Davis, who is arguably weaker looking than 'The Terminator.'

Study participants in a series of experiments, conducted by UC Berkeley's Cameron Anderson and Oklahoma State University's Aaron Lukaszewski, overwhelmingly equated physical strength with higher status and leadership qualities.
