`Stellar` Williamson bags New Zealand Cricketer of the Year award

Wellington, Feb. 25 : New Zealand prolific batsman Kane Williamson has bagged the supreme Sir Richard Hadlee medal for cricketer of the year at the NZC awards night on Thursday.

The 25-year-old, who will succeed retired Brendon McCullum as team's captain for next month's World T20 in India, also collected Test player of the year and the Redpath Cup for first-class batting for the second year running, Stuff. co. nz reported.

Misbah believes Pakistan will reap benefits of `successful` PSL

Johannesburg, Feb. 25 : Pakistan Test captain Misbah-ul-Haq has expressed that the just-concluded Pakistan Super League will help his country's cricket to flourish in the Twenty20 format.

Aaron Phangiso's bowling action comes under review

Johannesburg, Feb. 25 : South Africa left-arm spinner Aaron Phangiso has been reported for a suspect illegal bowling action in his country's domestic one-day cricket championship.

The incident took place in his side Highveld Lions' win against the Warriors in the semi-finals of the Momentum One-Day Cup at the Wanderers.

The 32-year-old, whose actions will now be scrutinized in accordance with the CSA Regulations, was also required to undergo independent analysis by a member of the ICC Panel of Human Movement Specialists.

Doha: Long jumper Mayookha Johny fetched India a gold medal while sprinter Dutee Chand settled for a bronze after shattering national record in 60m dash in the Asian Indoor Athletics Championships here.

Mayookha controlled the long jump competition from the very outset and finished on top of the podium with a leap of 6.35m, an effort that propelled her to India's first Asian indoor title in the event.

Bui Thi Thu Thao of Vietnam took the silver with a 6.30m jump while Olga Rypakova of Kazakhstan finished third with an effort of

New Delhi: India's opening batsman Shikhar Dhawan on Friday endorsed the NDA government's directive to all central universities to fly the tricolour atop a 207-feet tall flag mast.

Speaking at a promotional event, the left-hander voiced his opinion in favor of unfurling the 'tiranga' at all 46 central universities.

"My take is simple. It (flag) should be unfurled at the Universities. It (flag) is the pride of the nation. The more the merrier I would say," he said.

New Delhi: Skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni on Friday claimed that the current Indian team is "in auto-pilot mode" ahead of the twin T20 tournaments - Asia Cup and World Twenty20.

The 34-year-old was referring to the recent triumphs against Australia and Sri Lanka, which India won 3-0 and 2-1 respectively Down Under and at home.

"We have played T20s in Australia and the at home in recent times. The team is doing well. So, you can say that the team is in auto- pilot mode," he said.

But the skipper was shared his concerns, for possible injuries and drop of form.

New Delhi: Team India skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni has made it clear that he is not retiring from international cricket anytime soon.

The 34-year-old Dhoni had called time on his Test career in the middle of the away series against Australia in December 2014.

Dhoni, who guided India to two world titles - inaugural World T20 in 2007 and World Cup in 2011 - besides overseeing the country's rise to the pinnacle of Test ranking, is seeking to regain the trophy he won nine years ago in South Africa.

Chhattisgarh to play Ranji Trophy after BCCI gives full membership

Mumbai, Feb 19 - The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) on Friday awarded full membership status to Chhattisgarh State Cricket Sangh (CSCS), making the state eligible to take part in the Ranji Trophy next season.

The state will be a part of the Central Zone for all BCCI tournaments.

"The members approved the recommendation of the affiliation committee of BCCI to grant full member status to Chhattisgarh State Cricket Sangh. They will be a part of the Central Zone for all the BCCI tournaments," the BCCI said in a release.

New Delhi, Feb. 19 : Limited-overs captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni believes that Indian bowling unit is looking very balanced and settled going into next month's World T20.

Karachi, Feb. 19 : Former Pakistan all-rounder Azhar Mahmood is likely to join the national side as the new bowling coach.

Mahmood is expected to replace former leg-spinner Mushtaq Ahmed, who is reportedly considering a move to the National Cricket Academy as head coach.

According to the Express Tribune, Mushtaq had informed the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) that he would not be able to continue as the spin bowling coach.

As a result, head coach Waqar Younis suggested the name of Mahmood for the same.
