Siddharth Mallya takes plunge into acting

Mumbai: Siddharth Mallya is planning to take his showbiz career seriously as the Kingfisher scion is moving to London to have a Masters degree in acting.

The 27-year-old director of the IPL cricket team Royal Challengers Bangalore, who earlier appeared in two international low-budget short films, has enrolled himself into the prestigious Royal Central School of Speech and Drama.

Mumbai: "Virasat" actress Pooja Batra, who has been away from Bollywood for almost a decade, is now making her foray into the Punjabi film industry.

The Los Angeles-based actress, 41, will be seen in "Killer Punjabi", a romantic-action movie, where she plays a nurse, who unknowingly falls in love with a professional killer.

"'Killer Punjabi' has been an amazing experience for me, right from the creative to acting. This is my first Punjabi movie and I am very excited about it. It is set in LA," Pooja said in a statement.

'Margarita...' bags best feature film at Washington fest

Mumbai: Kalki Koechlin-starrer disability drama "Margarita With A Straw" has bagged the best feature film honour at the recently concluded Washington, DC International Film festival.

Kalki, 31, who plays a cerebral palsy patient in the Sonali Bose-directed film, took to Twitter to share the news.

"And in Filmfest DC look who won best feature film! http//filmfestdc Org/ #MargaritaWithAStraw," Kalki tweeted.

Before its release on April 17, the film made its world premiere at the 2014 Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF).

Mumbai: Veteran actress Shashikala and Vidya Balan were today named for Maharashtra Government's awards in memory of late Raj Kapoor.

While Shashikala will be given Raj Kapoor Life Time contribution award, Balan will receive the Raj Kapoor Special Contribution award, Cultural affairs minister Vinod Tawde told reporters at Mantralaya.

The V Shantaram Life Time Achievement Award will be given to veteran cinematographer Suryakant Lavande and the V Shantaram special contribution award will go to actress Sonali Kulkarni, the minister said.

Salman Khan hit-and-run case: Prosecution to submit written arguments today

Mumbai: The prosecution in the 2002 hit-and-run case involving Bollywood superstar Salman Khan would submit final written arguments on Monday as directed by the trial court here.

Special Public Prosecutor Pradeep Gharat concluded the prosecution case on April 9 after commencing oral arguments from April 1.

Defence counsel Shrikant Shivade commenced his final arguments on April 10. He will continue his submissions from April 15.
