Paris fashion houses innovate from head to toe

Paris, July 3 - Shoes by Iris Van Herpen that look like roots, the flashy designs of On aura tout vu and Charlie Le Mindu's blonde African wigs are among the innovations coming out of the fashion houses of Paris.

Van Herpen, who was invited to showcase her designs Monday, gave a natural look to feet, wrapping them in shoes with plastic roots, while turning dresses into trees and transforming her models into amphibians and birds.

The Dutch designer added leaves to garments and inserted branches made of moving filaments into her works at the show in the Palais de la Decouverte.

Naomi Campbell back on runway for Versace

Paris, July 2 : Supermodel Naomi Campbell returned to the runway for a show for Italian fashion brand Versace for the first time since she was attacked and robbed on a street here last December.

Campbell, 43, looked fit as a fiddle when she opened the show for Versace Couture at the Paris Fashion Week here June 30.

She garned attention in a sheer bejewelled basque, which showed off her long legs. She paid a tribute to creative director Donatella Versace's late brother Gianni.

Paris, June 28 - Designers unveiled fresh and comfortable looks at Paris Men's Fashion Week, with Walter Van Beirendonck and Carven among the fashion houses getting in on the trend.

Walter Van Beirendonck rolled out suits with geometric patchwork patterns at the Garnier Opera House.

"The collection is called 'Home Sweet Home.' I used spaces in my house as the inspiration," the Belgian designer, who is considered a creator of some of the most original men's fashion items on the market, told EFE.

Haute couture inspires ready-to-wear in Paris

Paris, March 8 - Designers, including Venezuela's Oscar Carvallo, presented a wide range of garments, accessories and jewellery in the studios and boutiques of the French capital during Paris Fashion Week.

Carvallo, who has worked in Paris since 2003, designed a ready-to-wear collection inspired by haute couture.

The Venezuelan designer said his collection, which was presented to the public in late January, was inspired by the sea, "a daily reality".

Carvallo works out of a studio on upscale Faubourg Saint Honore street in Paris.

Paris, March 6 - A rejuvenated Saint Laurent took to the runway of Paris Fashion Week under the leadership of Hedi Slimane, who unveiled the design house's fall-winter ready-to-wear collection.

Slimane presented a collection that is risky, youthful and fresh, laying out her first vision for the feminine winter wardrobe.

The show surprised the audience and some posts on social-networking sites criticized Slimane for moving so far away from the stylish house founded by Yves Saint Laurent with her "grunge" look.

Paris, Ma Mar 1 - Swedish retailer H&M unveiled its fall-winter collection at Paris Fashion Week, marking the first time that the company held an elaborate event to showcase its designs.

H&M held its show in the gardens of the Rodin Museum, with the path to the runway area lit by candles.

The show started with a velvet cape, featuring two openings in the front, combined with boots as the icebreaker.

H&M reinterpreted the black mini-skirt, adding tassels and a good measure of English embroidery.

Paris, Feb 28 - Black and white dominated the ready-to-wear fall-winter collections unveiled by designers Devastee, Anthony Vaccarello and Moon Young Hee at Paris Fashion Week.

French designers Ophelie Klere and Francois Alary rolled out bicoloured and playful garments.

"This collection is based on something more cerebral than usual," Klere told EFE.

The designers were inspired by their region in southwestern France to create the drawings present in 70 percent of the garments, Klere said.

Paris, Feb 21 - France's exports of ready-to-wear clothing rose 3.4 percent in 2012, compared to the previous year, with market share growing in the US and Asia, while sales continued to decline domestically and across Europe, media reports said.

Spending on women's clothing fell 2.8 percent in France in 2012, posting a decline for the fifth straight year and putting the focus on exports, the business daily Les Echos said, citing industry figures.
